Chief Eric Smith is pleased to announce that the Gloucester Fire Department Honor Guard has been invited to present the colors at next week’s Red Sox game.
The Gloucester Fire Department Honor Guard, led by firefighter Michael Mitchell, will present flags at the Red Sox vs. Yankees game on July 7, at Fenway Park at 7:10 p.m.
The Honor Guard will march on the field to present the American flag and Fire Department flags before the National Anthem.
“It is an honor to be able to present flags at Fenway,” said Chief Smith. “Not only does our staff get to go onto the field, but it’s a Red Sox versus Yankees game. It will be a great experience for everyone attending.”
About the Honor Guard
The Gloucester Fire Department (GFD) Honor Guard was officially organized in 2002. The organization came about as a response to ensure that fallen firefighters and departed retired firefighters were given the honor and dignity they deserve at their funeral services. The GFD Honor Guard made its official debut at the Gloucester Veterans Day ceremony on November 11, 2002. The Honor Guard has proudly presented the Colors at Red Sox, Bruins and Revolution games many times since 2002.
