Gloucester Fire Department Extinguishes Two-Alarm House Fire
GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department responded to a two-alarm house fire early this morning.
At approximately 12 a.m., Gloucester Firefighters were dispatched to 652 Essex Ave. for a report of a fire. Upon arrival, firefighters observed that the house was fully involved with flames visible from the roof and three sides of the home.
Firefighters began an aggressive attack and a second alarm response was ordered.
The fire was under control by approximately 1 a.m., but firefighters remained on scene well into the morning wetting down hot spots.
Two residents were home when the fire started, but were both able to get out of the house safely. No injuries were reported.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under active investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department. The home has been deemed a total loss and will be demolished as soon as it is safe to do so.
