GLOUCESTER– Chief Eric Smith reports that the Gloucester Fire Department extinguished a one-alarm house fire on Essex Avenue (Route 133) this morning.
At 7:24 a.m. the Gloucester Fire Department responded to 584 Essex Ave. for a report of a house fire. The occupants of the home were alerted to the fire when their smoke detector sounded an alarm, which enabled them to evacuate safely prior to the arrival of first responders.
Upon arrival, firefighters found flames in the wall of the home, which is believed following an initial investigation to have been caused by a chimney flu failure. Firefighters had the fire under control by approximately 7:45 a.m.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
The Rockport Fire Department provided station coverage while Gloucester Fire responded to the incident.
The fire remains under investigation by the Gloucester Fire Department with assistance from the Building Department Inspector.
