Gloucester Firefighters to Participate in Fight for Air Climb
GLOUCESTER — Chief Eric Smith is pleased to announce that members of the Gloucester Fire Department will participate in the annual Fight for Air Climb to raise funds for those affected by lung disease through the American Lung Association (ALA).
Saturday, Feb. 4
One Boston Place, 201 Washington St., Boston
Fight for Air Climb is a signature ALA event hosted in the nation’s most prominent skyscrapers. As part of the event, Gloucester firefighters will climb a total of 789 stairs to raise money for the ALA. The building, which is 601 feet tall, has 41 floors, and each floor has two flights of stairs.
“Many of our fellow brother and sister firefighters have been affected by some form of occupational lung disease. Our department in particular has dealt with loss, that’s why we do this,” said Firefighter Chad Mota, who is organizing the Gloucester Fire team. “This event is not only a great fundraiser, but also close to all of our hearts.”
This is the sixth year that Gloucester Fire has participated in the ALA Air Climb. The department hopes to surpass last year’s $2,000 donation.
